The call for nominations for the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education was launched on 8 March, International Women’s Day. Established in 2015 and funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Prize honours outstanding and innovative practices advancing girls’ and women’s education. It consists of two US $50,000 awards to help further the work of laureates in this field. This Prize honours outstanding innovation and contributions made by individuals, institutions and organizations in advancing girls’ and women’s education. The first edition of the Prize was awarded in 2016 to two laureates from Indonesia and Zimbabwe, and the 2017 laureates were from Thailand and Peru. The deadline for submission of nominations is 11 May 2018 and the online platform is available both in English and French. Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU) in the People’s Republic of China would like to offer undergraduate scholarships to outstanding students from the Belt and Road countries (including SEAMEO Member Countries) in the academic year 2018. The SYSU “2018 Belt and Road Undergraduate Scholarship Programme for International Students” is open for application until 30 April 2018. SYSU, founded by Dr Sun Yat-Sen in 1924, is a prominent research, academic and cultural institutes for talent development in South China. It is operated under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, and strongly supported by both the Ministry and Guangdong Province. SYSU has become a modern comprehensive multi-disciplinary university that enjoys a reputation as a top-tier university nationally and a renowned university internationally. To improve its educational influence and to attract more students from all over the world, SYSU has setup the “Undergraduate Scholarship for International Students”, in support of outstanding students’ pursuit of bachelor's degrees at SYSU. In 2017, there were approximately 230 students received the scholarships through this programme. The Jasmine Jiangsu Tertiary Education Scholarship for Southeast Asia (JJTES-SEA) is open for application until 31 May 2018.
The 2018 Jasmine Jiangsu Tertiary Education Scholarship for Southeast Asia (JJTES-SEA) is a scholarship programme provided by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education (JPDE) for 87 secondary level graduates with excellent academic records from Southeast Asian Region to pursue certificates or degrees in the tertiary level institutions in Jiangsu Province, People’s Republic of China commencing from Academic Year 2018. The JJTES-SEA scholarships include forty-four (44) full scholarships and forty-three (43) partial scholarships. Details are presented here. They can also be accessed from SEAMEO website. In 2016, there were 71 students from 8 Southeast Asian countries that received the scholarships. In 2017, the number increased to 73 students from 10 Southeast Asian countries. The application is open until 31 May 2018. The scholarship management team will select and contact the successful candidates in two rounds: by April 2018 and by June 2018. Kindly noted that, once the student applies, the applicants will not be eligible to apply for other concurrent scholarship programmes provided by governments/organisations in the People’s Republic of China via SEAMEO Secretariat, for example, Sun Yat-Sen University Scholarship for International Students, Guizhou Government Scholarship for Southeast Asia. The China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) is a platform to promote cultural and educational exchanges between China and ASEAN countries. It has been co-hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of P R China, Ministry of Education of P R China and Guizhou Provincial People’s Government of P R China annually since 2008. The 11th CAECW will consist of warm-up period, curtain-up period and follow-up period. The curtain-up period will be held on 6-12 August 2018 in Guizhou Province, P R China, and the other two periods will hold series of activities in 2018 in both China and ASEAN countries. Programmes to be held in curtain-up period in Guizhou will be fully or partially sponsored by the organizing committee and is open for educational institutions, organizations and enterprises from China and ASEAN. The call for proposals for the 11th CAECW is currently open. The SEAMEO Secretariat and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT) in cooperation with UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education are pleased to announce the 2017 SEAMEO-Japan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Award, with the theme of “Improving Health and Nutrition”. The objectives of this year’s award scheme are: 1. To raise awareness on “Health and Nutrition Programme” integrated in education for the promotion of sustainable development in schools and communities in Southeast Asia and Japan. 2. To promote and share initiatives and good practices that support sustainable development through the promotion of health and nutrition into school plan, teaching and learning practices, and daily routines of students. 3. To encourage schools to develop and improve current ESD practices in school activities and programmes. We would like to invite all public and private schools as well as vocational and technical schools (certificate level) in 11 SEAMEO Member countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam to submit the information about their respective school’s activities/programmes relating to the theme. Open Call for ASEM Students' Applications: ARC6 Students' Forum, 9-12 October 2017, Singapore6/23/2017
Following the 1st ASEM Education Ministers’ Meeting in (ASEM ME1) in 2008 in Berlin, the ASEF Rectors’ Conference and Students’ Forum (ARC) was established to serve as a multi-stakeholder dialogue platform for university leaders, policy makers and education practitioners, business representatives and students. ARC is recognised as the Official Dialogue Partner of the ASEM Education Ministers Meetings (ASEM MEs). Its results, including policy recommendations and research, feed into the preparation of ASEM MEs, which ARC rectors and student representatives have been also invited to attend.
The 6th ASEF Rectors’ Conference and Students’ Forum (ARC6) will focus on the topic “Future-ready Universities and Graduates: Quality Education beyond the Horizon”. ASEF will organise ARC6 in partnership with the Singapore Management University (SMU) from 9-13 October 2017. The Students’ Forum will take place from 9-12 October 2017, followed by the Rectors’ Conference from 12-13 October 2017. The Open Call for Application for the Students’ Forum has just been launched. SEAMOLEC is going to host a video conference called The 1st INDOPED International Webinar during 20-24 February 2017 under the project co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union namely INDOPED.
The project is expected to bring added value to current Indonesian educational system by introducing and sharing different learning methods from European university to Indonesian University partners. This project was started at the end of 2015 to 2018, and involving 5 European Universities, 5 Indonesian Universities, and SEAMOLEC. After several join-workshops and a year of implementation of the European pedagogical methods in Indonesian universities, the result will be presented through this video conference.
