08 March 2016, SEAMEO CELLL convened a meeting to build strategic alliances and mobilize expertise and experience from stakeholders in lifelong learning, propose national level activities to strengthen the development and implementation of policies and plans towards a learning society, and plan possible actions to support Southeast Asian countries’ lifelong learning agenda. The project on developing a lifelong learning agenda for Southeast Asian countries results from a proposal by SEAMEO CELLL to UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning in 2015 that aims to build a common framework for understanding and developing lifelong learning in the region.
Participating the meeting were representatives of DVV International Regional Office (based in Lao PDR), Indonesia Ministry of Education and Culture, National Institute for Lifelong Education (Republic of Korea), SEAMEO CELLL, SEAMEO Secretariat, UNESCO Vietnam, UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education, and Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training.

Through the meeting’s brainstorming and discussion sessions, the participants identified key issues and challenges in a variety of aspects of lifelong learning in the region and considered different courses of actions by the stakeholders in the project.

The meeting ended conclusively and  fruitfully, with all participants agreeing upon an action plan which outlines all essential components of the project as well as its detailed timeframe, budget arrangement, and expected contributions from participating parties.
