SEAMEO SPAFA's Traditional Southeast Asian Music Competition on Mobile Applications are open to submissions.
As an organization supporting activities in archaeology, arts and culture in Southeast Asia, SEAMEO SPAFA acknowledges the importance of traditional music of the Southeast Asian region as an important form of cultural expression in need of preservation. Meanwhile, the Centre also believes that technology, especially mobile technology, can be used as a possible tool to encourage Southeast Asian youths to be exposed to, play and create traditional music. Hence, SEAMEO SPAFA is holding the 'Traditional Southeast Asian Music Competition on Mobile Applications'. The SEAMEO Secretariat and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT) in cooperation with UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education are pleased to announce the 2018 SEAMEO-Japan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Award, with the theme of “Applying Local Wisdom for Environmental Conservation”.
The objectives of this year’s award scheme are: 1) To raise awareness of local wisdom applied for environmental conservation and sustainable development in schools and communities in Southeast Asia and Japan. 2) To promote and share initiatives and good practices that support sustainable development through the integration of local wisdom into the teaching and learning practices and school programmes that protects local environment and develops local community. 3) To encourage schools to develop and improve current ESD activities and programmes. We would like to invite all public and private schools as well as vocational and technical schools (certificate level) in 11 SEAMEO Member countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam to submit the information about their respective school’s activities/programmes relating to the theme. Bangkok Summer Course Scholarship of “International Experience” will be held in Bangkok, Thailand (Silapakorn University) from 31 July to 11 August 2018. Registration is currently open to Bachelor Degree students of all years and majors with nationalities of ASEAN Member Countries, exclusive of Thailand. The call for nominations for the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education was launched on 8 March, International Women’s Day. Established in 2015 and funded by the Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Prize honours outstanding and innovative practices advancing girls’ and women’s education. It consists of two US $50,000 awards to help further the work of laureates in this field. This Prize honours outstanding innovation and contributions made by individuals, institutions and organizations in advancing girls’ and women’s education. The first edition of the Prize was awarded in 2016 to two laureates from Indonesia and Zimbabwe, and the 2017 laureates were from Thailand and Peru.
